So anywhere, there I was on some completely unrecognizable street in 金边, with absolutely no idea where I was, thinking vaguely 那 I should have have brought my map. Fortunately, the *second* motorcycle I flagged down turned out to be driven 通过 a much 更好 driver, who not only charged me only half the first rate (2000 riel–50 cents), but actually took me to my destination (!). 柬埔寨 is like 那 , too.

在皇宫，宫殿的大门已关闭并上锁–since King Sikanoukh returned from exile the Palace has been 关-limits to visitors. Well, I knew 那 , but I also wanted to find the Silver Pagoda, 所以我 started walking around the Royal Palace grounds. I should pause here to mention 那 I did finally learn the trick of crossing a street in 亚洲. Douglas Adams mentions (in his wonderful book _Last Chance to See_) 那 streets in 中国 are remarkable–满是通过十字路口的司机，对交通法没有明显的了解–或似乎是物理定律。

“Just as you’d swear 他们 were going to hit one another, the cars seem to pass through each other like beams of light, missing each other 通过 no more than six inches” he wrote. And in fact crossing the street is just like 那 .

All this makes it a rather nervewracking process for the hapless Westerner, who’s used to more orderly things like crosswalks and stoplights. I still have to suppress the conviction 那 I’m about to die.

One starts out driving on the left-hand side of the road (against traffic, but on the shoulder). If you imagine a fish swimming head-on into a school of other fish, at a slight angle, and emerging on the other side, you’我会很好地了解这种操作方式。

He seemed blissfully aware of our imminently impending doom.

(I am tempted to ask them if 他们 have Robitussin cold medication, DHL service, and a couple of cute geeks (available for short or long-term rental 😉 ) on tap as well, but I suppose 那 would be pushing my luck.)
